The Giant Aphrodite Cat
The Giant Aphrodite is an ancient, native breed of the island of Cyprus. Mt. Olympus is located on Cyprus.
The breed was first introduced at the international cat show in Limassol in January / February 2009 and caused an unprecedented interest from the public and felinologists of different countries. In April 2012, a presentation of the Giant Aphrodite breed took place in Magdeburg. Nineteen Aphrodite cats where in attendance, including representatives from Germany, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands and six cats from Cyprus. At the WCF General Assembly in 2012 the breed received official recognition, the standard of the breed "Aphrodite Giant" was approved. In September 2017 The International Cat Association (TICA) recognized the Aphrodite as a Preliminary New Breed. The ACFA and LCWW both recognize the Aphrodite as a Champion breed. |
